It works as advertised, but is mostly useful for people working in an office and don’t always remember to lock their machine when they step away. The EliteBook x360 1040 G7’s screen is on the dim side, but if you can tolerate that you’ll appreciate its beautiful design, reliable performance and good battery life.

The absolute best convertible

The last time I reviewed an EliteBook x360 1040, I said that it was nearly perfect. It still is. I do have one new complaint, which is that by now, we should all be using USB 3.2 Gen 2 and HDMI 2.0. There really isn't an excuse for USB 3.2 Gen 1 anymore, especially on the premium tier. I'd also love to see some of the color options that we have on HP's consumer laptops.

Strong design with an impressive set of integrated functions and auxiliary features. The outdated UHD graphics brings down an otherwise excellent convertible.

HP did a really great job with the EliteBook x360 1040 G7. The design is superb, vibrant display, decent performance, and more. If you can get past the high price tag, I believe you’ll like this laptop as much as I did.

Thinner, lighter, but still shy of greatness

HP's refreshed top-tier business laptop continues to get thinner, lighter, and just all-around better for late 2020 with the G7. With options for 4G LTE, smaller display bezels, and a better-integrated keyboard, this do-it-all convertible not only looks great but is built tough too. However, waiting for Intel 11th Gen Intel CPUs may be worth it, and HP can still fix a few things to make this laptop perfect.
