Mac Capture Tool

Mac Capture Tool is a basic tool included with MacOS Catalina and newer that allows users to capture the screen and take screenshots. Here's how it works:

  • Bring up the screenshot toolbar by pressing Shift + Command + 5. The toolbar displays on the screen, with two groups of buttons.
  • Hit the Record Entire Screen (left) or Record Selected Portion (right) button, then the Record button.
  • When you're finished, click the small Record button on the menu bar at the top of the screen. Alternatively, hold down the Command + Control + Esc keys. By default, the video is saved to the desktop.

Chromebook

Google now provides an integrated screen recording feature for Chrome OS.

  • Enter your Chrome OS username and password. Press Shift + Ctrl + the Show Windows button at the same time.
  • Select Screen Capture. 
  • A toolbar emerges along the bottom of the screen as the screen dims. Draw a box around the area on the screen you wish to capture by pressing and holding the mouse button or touchpad.
  • The screen recording tool is set to Screenshot by default. To record a video, tap the Screen Record button on the toolbar.
  • Hit the Record button in the center of the specified area.
  • Finally, on the Shelf next to the system clock, hit the Stop Screen Recording button. The captured video is saved to the Downloads folder by default.
