Have you ever attended a Zoom conference and were plagued with worry because you were speaking but no one could hear you?  If you’re using Zoom for work, you surely don't want to be that person who's late or unable to engage effectively due to unanticipated technical problems.

Zoom is a well-known video conferencing program. Many businesses utilize this program to conduct remote meetings, while geographically separated families and friends use the platform to spend quality time together. So when your Zoom microphone doesn't seem to be working, all hell breaks loose.

Audio problems in Zoom like your mic not working can impact your experience, so you need to fix the problem real quick.

Using Zoom With Laptop Mic

Video conferencing platforms like Zoom have grown in popularity as organizations around the world work remotely and family and friends communicate virtually. Zoom is a video conferencing software that is cloud-based that can be used for video and audio conferencing, webinars, conferences, recordings, and live chat.

Here's how to configure your laptop's microphone for Zoom.

  • To end the speaker and microphone test, hit "Join with Computer audio."
  • To enter the test meeting with the specified microphone and speakers, tap "Join with Computer Audio."

HP Laptop Microphone Not Working on Zoom

It's difficult to interact with people during Zoom meetings if your HP laptop's microphone isn't working. But no need to be alarmed. These troubleshooting methods can help you get your microphone working again so you can continue discussing business with your colleagues.

Check that your microphone is not muted.

You may have muted your microphone for a variety of reasons, or you may have mistakenly muted it. Here's how to tell whether you're on mute:

  • Navigate to the Control Panel > Hardware and Sound.
  • Go to Sound > Recording.
  • Choose Properties from the context menu when you right-click the microphone.
  • Select Levels. Tap the red circle with a line through it on or near the microphone to enable it.

Reboot your laptop.

It's amazing how much a simple restart of your laptop usually solves the problem. If you're experiencing difficulties connecting a microphone, rebooting the laptop, and then resuming the microphone connection.

Turn off Bluetooth devices.

If you're using numerous Bluetooth devices with your HP laptop, you may need to disable those devices before you can connect a separate wireless microphone to your laptop, just like you have to turn Bluetooth on for wireless devices. Check that no other Bluetooth devices are connected before reconnecting the wireless microphone.

Use the HP Support Assistant.

HP offers a Support Assistant to assist you in determining whether there is an issue with your laptop's microphone. How to utilize it:

  • If it isn't already on your laptop, download and install the HP Support Assistant.
  • Once installed, launch the Assistant and navigate to the My devices menu, then choose your laptop.
  • Then choose Troubleshooting and Repairs > Audio Check > Next.
  • Review the findings after the test to determine if the Assistant can identify your microphone.
